But refusal meant consequences. Kiva hesitated over the neural map, pulse climbing.  <\/p>\n<p>She initialized the transfer. As the false memories flowed into his mind, something twitched\u2014an anomaly. The fragmented past she\u2019d constructed flickered. Then she saw it: a buried imprint, a real lost childhood hidden beneath the one he wanted.  <\/p>\n<p>If she continued, it would vanish forever.  <\/p>\n<p>Kiva pulled back.
