She didn\u2019t belong here anymore, but the owner\u2019s call had been desperate. &#8220;It&#8217;s not just the film reel,&#8221; he\u2019d whispered. &#8220;It&#8217;s proof.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the smell of mildew and burnt popcorn wrapped around her. An ancient 35mm projector hummed with static. Mira found the reel unspooled on the floor, spattered with fresh blood. A body\u2014Gary, the owner\u2014slumped in the velvet seat of old number seven. His stained fingers clutched a black-and-white still of two men shaking hands in front of a crooked politician&#8217;s mansion, faking smiles.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019d seen that mansion before\u2014in an old family album.
