He glanced at her\u2014soft wrinkles, weary eyes. She stood motionless, calculating.  <\/p>\n<p>Without thinking, he picked up a second loaf and placed it in her basket. \u201cMy grandma used to say nobody should have to think twice about bread,\u201d he said with a small smile.  <\/p>\n<p>She blinked, then patted his arm. \u201cThat\u2019s a good grandma.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>As Adam walked away, the dull hum of the store felt quieter, the overhead lights warmer.
