Glyphs of Vhexis

The carbon dunes of Vhexis-4 shifted, whispering beneath Dr. Liora Yen’s boots. As a xeno-linguist, she had spent years deciphering the silent glyphs carved into the planet’s obsidian spires, remnants of a vanished species.

Today, she found something new—fresh etchings spiraling across a monolith. Someone, or something, was still here. Her translation device struggled, producing fragmented messages: *We remember. We are near.*

Liora hesitated. She had always believed language was the bridge between civilizations, but what if words could be a trap? The last team vanished without a trace.

Shadows pooled in the dunes, twisting. A presence pressed against her thoughts—not words, but raw emotion. Loneliness. Curiosity. Fear.

Liora exhaled and pressed her palm to the stone, offering silent understanding. The presence fluttered, then receded. The glyphs changed: *Not alone.*

The wind howled, carrying something unfamiliar in its currents—laughter, or something learning how to mimic it.
