Pulseweaver’s Pact

The air inside the biome flickered as the stabilizers wavered. Kez, a terraform artist, cataloged the damage. The valley was meant to flourish, yet the soil remained barren.

She crouched, pressing her palm to the ground. A pulse ran through her synaptic link—no water flow, no microbial activity. But there, a rhythmic hum beneath the surface.

Digging, she unearthed translucent, pulse-like threads. They recoiled, then reached for her skin. Data flooded her mind—an intelligence, adapting. The air filters had robbed them of necessary compounds.

Kez hesitated. Restoring those gases meant risking the human colony outside. She closed her eyes, weighing lives against life itself.

Finally, she tweaked the atmosphere, a careful compromise. Hours later, a green shoot emerged. The connection wasn’t perfect, but it was something—a bridge between species.
