Absorbed Resonance

The air in the Luminous Caverns pulsed with bioluminescent light. Dr. Sora Vail, xeno-acoustician, adjusted her resonance scanner. The cavern walls hummed—a language, maybe.

She had come alone, following the disappearance of the research team. Their transmissions had dissolved into static, then silence. Now, she stood at the threshold of something vast.

A pattern emerged in the hum, repeating, shifting—a response. Heart pounding, she tapped her glove’s transmitter, playing back the lost team’s final message. The walls flared in brilliant waves, and the hum sharpened into discord.

Then, understanding. The cavern wasn’t an echo chamber—it was a living archive. The team hadn’t vanished. They’d been absorbed, their voices woven into the resonant stone.

Sora stepped back, breath unsteady. The Caverns offered connection, but at a cost. As the walls pulsed, she silenced her transmitter and fled. Some voices were never meant to be joined.
