Spire of Doubles

Dr. Veyla Rho adjusted her gravity boots, scanning the labyrinth of floating rock formations within the Kuiper Drift. Her research on the region’s dark energy anomalies had been promising—until her drone returned with impossible readings. Something was shifting space itself.

A jagged spire loomed ahead, vibrating in silence. As she reached out, space around her hand rippled, and suddenly, she wasn’t alone. A second Veyla stood before her, eyes wide with the same recognition. Two versions, identical yet subtly out of sync.

“Temporal overlap,” the other Veyla murmured. “We’re caught between probabilities.”

The spire pulsed again. The drift was collapsing—only one Veyla could remain.

With no time to second-guess, she deactivated her own gravity boots, surrendering to the void. As she faded, she watched the other stabilize, holding her own fate together.

A sacrifice for continuity. Or perhaps, just another version of survival.
