Bloom of the Vortaxis

The Obsidian Garden floated in the black gulf between dying stars, a research station harvesting data on time fractures. Dr. Liora Vasquez, a temporal botanist, cultivated flora that thrived on paradoxes—until the blooms began to whisper.

At first, it was nonsense: murmurs in a language she barely recognized. Then, the whispers formed patterns, warnings she couldn’t ignore. The station’s systems flickered erratically, corrupted by unseen forces. When Liora isolated the anomaly, she found it wasn’t a glitch. It was a presence.

The flowers weren’t just absorbing time distortions; they were conscious, and they spoke to her in echoes of futures they had seen. One caught her hand gently—velvet petals pulsating with urgency. “You must leave.”

But knowledge was everything. If she abandoned the station, the research would be lost. If she stayed, the entity would consume her.

The warning crescendoed—a final plea. Liora exhaled, severed the data link, and launched her escape pod just as the Obsidian Garden unraveled into nothing.
